Capoeira
Capoeira is a Brazilian martial art form combining music, dance and acrobatics. This course will take participants through the basics of Capoeira. The basic skills of attack and defence are taught to prepare participants for improvisation in the “Roda” - the circle in which the game of Capoeira takes place. Capoeira creates an atmosphere of fun, energy and lively spirit. It is a fantastic body and mind workout that will develop your strength, flexibility, coordination and self confidence.
How does the Capoeira course run?
The Capoeira course covers all aspects of Capoeira – the movements, the music and the culture. No previous experience is necessary. Participants are encouraged to work at their own pace and within their own limits. You will improve your fitness, coordination, strength, flexibility, and rhythm while learning about Afro-Brazilian culture. Classes consist of strength and fitness conditioning (catering to all fitness levels) and movement drills such as kicks, defence, and basic acrobatics. Some sessions will also feature percussion instruments traditionally used in Capoeira. At the end of the course, beginners will have a basic understanding of Capoeira and its culture and will begin to improvise with their skills in the 'game' of Capoeira. The classes cater to beginners as well as intermediate and advance levels. Students who have already trained in Capoeira will have a chance to improve their existing skills and will still feel challenged throughout the course.
